3D Chalk Art Videos

Browse this collection of time lapse videos showing me making 3D chalk art. You can see the creation process all the way from line drawing to finished painting.

Super Mario 3D Chalk Art

This is the first chalk art time lapse video I ever made, all the way back in 2012. I was still learning the fundamentals of 3D chalk art at this point. Drawing an 8-bit character was the perfect practice exercise for me to learn more about constructing objects in 3D. This video went viral and helped launch my art career! Before this I had no plans to become a professional artist.

Whac-A-Mole

This is another early time lapse video from my collection. During this time I was really interested in drawing nostalgic games and characters. I loved Whac-A-Mole arcade games when I was growing up. So, I decided to draw one in my garage! The 5,280 score is a reference to the elevation of Denver, Colorado.

“Rocket League”

I went through a long phase where I was obsessed with the video game “Rocket League”. It’s basically soccer played with rocket powered cars. So naturally I wanted to make a chalk drawing in honor of my favorite game. This piece was done in my garage during the winter because it was too cold to chalk outside.

“Snake” 3D Chalk Art and Animation

After practicing 3D chalk art for a couple years I had the idea to create illusion drawings that combined the wall and floor. But I was struggling with the corner where the wall and floor met. The seam was messing up the illusion. So I had an idea to build a curved chalkboard wall (also known as a cyclorama wall). This video is one of my first test drawings on the wall. I wanted to draw something with simple shapes to figure out how things looked on the curved wall. So I decided the game “Snake” was a perfect subject.
